Earth Day and Environmental Awareness

It’s Earth Day on the 22nd and I know that you’re tired of hearing me preach about taking care of the planet and all; so instead, I’ll post several movies/documentaries/series that talk about how awesome the planet is, and how important it is for us to take care of it.

The first one is ‘Home’. It is a documentary made by Yann Arthus-Bertrand last June 5th which shows aerial shots of various places in the Earth from over 50 countries. It shows not only gorgeous landscapes, but life’s diversity in the planet; and how we are threatening to disrupt its ecological balance due to our greed and over consumption.

You can watch the full version of ‘Home’ by clicking here.

Fast forward one year, and Discovery Channel and BBC collaborate to bring us ‘Life’, an 11-part series narrated by Oprah, which they started showing last March. This series shows the several wonders of the planet in full high definition. The series also used several advanced filming techniques that highlights the natural beauty of nature and its ecology. I’m definitely waiting for a boxed set of this series in the future.

‘An Inconvenient Truth’

The last movie I want to share is ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ by former US Vice President, Academy Award winner, and Nobel Peace Prize awardee Al Gore. I’m sure that most of you have seen or at least know what this movie is about. It mostly talks about climate change, its effects on the environment and how we can help decrease the its effects on the environment.

Speaking of Al Gore, he’s gonna be in Manila to show a special Asian version of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. I’m thinking of going, but the ticket prices are freaking expensive. The event, called “Al Gore: The Leader As Environment Steward”, will be held at the SMX Convention Center in the SM Mall of Asia Complex on April 30, 2010.

Ticket prices are the following:

Platinum (Reserved Seating)  Php15,840
Gold (Reserved Seating) Php 10,560
Silver (Reserved Seating) Php 5280
Bronze (Reseved Seating) Php 1056
